Greek life questions

I was wondering what being in a fraternity at USC is like. What is the rush process like for some of the top houses. What’s a typical weekend being in one of the top houses? Also, I actually care about my grades so I was wondering if being in a fraternity will ruin my GPA. Thanks for letting me know about what it’s like to be in a fraternity at USC

Being in a fraternity largely depends on what you make it/which house you join. First of all, I think the idea of “top houses” is so stupid. Sure, Phi Psi and Lamda have guys that are 6’4’’ with 6 packs, but a lot of people think they’re douchey too. It’s all about finding where you fit in. The rush process is about a week long. First, there’s the All-Row BBQ, where you mingle with frat guys and eat free food. Then the next day is house tours, pretty self-explanatory. Then the next three days are custom events that each house hosts. These can include skeet shooting, movies, comedy shows, etc–usually something fun that you can get to know the guys through. Then after those three days, there’s the invite-only blue chip dinner, and finally bid night on Friday. As far as GPA, pledging takes up a lot of time and is a lot of work. I’m pledging right now, and find that I don’t have any time for other clubs, at least for this semester. But I definitely have time to get my work done if I manage my time. So, in short, mingle with as many frats as you can, and pick one where you vibe with the guys, not one that is or isn’t a “top house.” And don’t worry about grades you’ll be fine.
