I joined a fraternity my freshman year at my original college. I transferred to a different school for my junior year, that doesn't have an active chapter of my fraternity, so I am in a similar situation to the hypothetical one of the OP.

NPC rules are a lot stricter than IFC rules. A woman who is an initiated member of an NPC GLO can never pledge another NPC GLO at any other school. The girl who transfers can apply to affiliate if her GLO has a chapter on her new campus, but the chapter reserves the right to vote on her membership. If for some reason the chapter and the girl don't mesh (remember that every chapter is different), the girl still is a member of the national organization of XYZ for the rest of her life and can participate in alumnae activities throughout her lifetime.

what Mr. Bojangles is talking about, is exactly what i mean.. thanks for the responses guys

As Mr. Bojangles said, every group is different, I can assure you that in my fraternity, if you have been initiated by one chapter you might as well have been initiated by any chapter. If after you transfer you pay dues, you have the same rights as any brother initiated by that chapter.

keep in mind not all frats/sororities have equally established chapters at different schools. a friend of mine was in a sorority at one college and transfered to my school only to find out that chapter stunk here

A happy freshman year in a house where you feel comfortable may eliminate the urge to transfer, anyway.
