Been reading about the Verdant Temple plan. Sounds exciting to have a traditional quad and other treatments in the works.
What is the timing for implementing these, does anyone know? Will they be working on it this spring? My D likes a lot of things about Temple, and understands that an urban campus has trade-offs, but that aspect did leave her a little cold after our first visit during the summer.
How close to campus are parks and other places to get a change of scenery?
I know the new Library is supposed to be completed by 2018 and will include a lot of green space but as to the completion of the entire project the best I could find was this from a Phill mag article:
“The landscape plan, a significant aspect of the university’s “Visualize Temple” comprehensive master plan, will cost at least $50 million as it is phased in over the next five years. It calls for the overhaul of lighting, plantings, wayfinding, storm water management, and more. Verdant Temple’s most exciting feature is the creation of a new Temple quad: a full city square of green space.”
Others can probably answer as to distances of things in Philly better, but Fairmont Park is a HUGE, BEAUTIFUL park with the Schuylkill River (crew boats), jogging trails and a great change of scenery that is under 2 miles away… I have heard many walk, jog, bike, septa, or Uber there… its very accessible and the Art Museum is right there… the beauty of Temple’s campus is you are within 4 mlies of everything in Philly …
Fairmount is amazing parks, Actually, there are some limited green spots on campus already and it is far more park like than other urban campuses i have seen. Also, Center City philly has a lot of small parks, some are only a block but it has more small parks than many cities. not to mention Fairmout, which is HUGE. i thinks it is several miles long. look up Fairmount on internet to learn more about that park
