Grinnell Anthropology?

They have 11 anthro profs. That's a lot. Does this reference the strength of their dept.? In constrast to Beloit college, which is supposed to be good in anthro, Beloit has 6.

If PhD production is a good indicator of department strength, then Grinnell has a strong department. See:

[REED COLLEGE PHD PRODUCTIVITY](Doctoral Degree Productivity - Institutional Research - Reed College)

Beloit is second, Grinnell is third.

Does anyone know how good of an indicator PhD production is of a high-quality dept.?

The anthro department here is pretty strong. I have a few friends that are anthro majors and adore it.

Also, keep in mind that one of the professors that is technically in the anthro department is really the linguistics professor. With linguistics being such a tiny concentration that is just recently being revived, she was placed into anthro.

And yet, I’m pretty sure I’ve read that Grinnell is strong in PhD production in Linguistics, even without a major.

It is! The concentration is getting stronger now, with the new professor and classes, and there’s been several independent linguistics majors.

Well, I’m going to check my status in the next few minutes…I’m predicting rejection.
