I would email or call admissions and ask. I think it varies by school.
Does it ever happen that student get more financial grand after talk to the Financial Aid Office? Colgate University gave my S about $10,000 more aid award than Grinnell without having to pay back. Am I crazy to do that? [-X
I’d advice you to definitely appeal if you have a genuine reason to do so … Appealing your award can’t hurt you in any way
@GwOwEn Grinnell has a fantastic endowment (over a billion, higher than other great schools like Vassar) and I have heard of cases from friends who have received huge increases in aid if you got into another college that gave you more. Considering Grinnell gives merit + need-based (versus Colgate’s need-based only), your request may be granted, especially if you have demonstrable - and hopefully, genuine - interest in the school.
Thank you Maxwell1941 and sammythang1234. It is good to know that it is ok to ask for more aid. If Grinnell could match what Colgate gave then there no reason not go to Grinnell. I think I will send them an email first and see how they respond.
Grinnell accepted 24.6% of applicants this year. Perhaps the most competitive year so far!
@sammythang1234 where didd you happen to see that?
@Zmanlane I forget the location, but I believe it was from a Washington Post article. I also confirmed the numbers with the Office of Admissions.
Found the article at http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2015/04/01/class-of-2019-admit-rates-from-selective-to-ultra-ultra-selective/
@GwOwEn Thanks! Admissions for most schools are at an all time low. Kind of sad so many great people get turned away.
