<p>I’m not really convinced by this material. Lot’s of money thrown in, I’m sure, but if you look carefully at the stats all they really say is that they have more science grads now – but their total number of grads has grown over time too. So, proportionally, are they really doing a better job of reaching out? Are they really just riding a friendly demographic wave?</p>
<p>This 2009 article from “Inside Higher Ed” gives more insight to the Grinnell Science Project and notes that the growth in women and minorities majoring in a science outpaces their growth in numbers at the school. This article gives a good description of the ways they changed the classroom experience, not just for participants in the program, but for all. It should be of interest to anyone considering studying science at Grinnell.</p>
