I've recently become attracted to the idea of Groton for my daughter, now in 6th grade. For some reason I feel that Groton is special, but I cannot articulate why. I also do not understand why they begin in 8th. Can anyone educate me on these points?

neatoburrito could really help you out -- try sending her a PM. Her family also thinks Groton is something special and her son applied for 8th grade this year (was waitlisted).

8th sound like a good idea to me, although I know nothing about Groton. To reach the upper levels of math one need top quality algebra in 8th grade. The mixed math experience of 9th freshman makes BSs nuts. They have to get everyone up to speed and into AP calc/equivalant by senior year. It puts horrible pressure on the schools and the kids. Today, the expected math curriculum takes 5 years, which they have to cram into 4.
