grubers anyone?

has anyone used the new Gruber's SAT prep book with success? I am deciding b/w it and PR and I really don't want to waste $ on a prep book that wont do me any good

According to xiggi, Grubers is good for math. I have no experience personally, just posting what an expert has to say (xiggi).

Yeah, I went to Borders to check it out. My dad loved it because it was the longest book with the most words (...), but I soon found out that there's absolutely no critical reading! Theres an introduction to the SAT, "strategies" for the SAT (which includes critical reading strategies, but no practice), a ton of math, a 3500 word vocab list, and a ton of vocab practice. But if you're looking for massive critical reading help, like me, don't get Gruber's because it doesn't provide any substance in that area. But if you're looking to improve your vocab for sentence completions or math, then by all means go out and buy it.

I agree. The math is very thorough and helpful. And it has a jumbo word list that could possibly be helpful. But don't buy it specifically for CR. For Critical Reading (and writing) get Grammatix and/or Rocket Review.

I have not really heard any good things about PR, but Xiggi did recommend Gruber's for its in-depth math coverage.

I just bought the blue book, Barron's verbal, and Kaplan Comprehensive (their newest book). Will Kaplan help for CR, or should I get RocketReview as well/instead?

Trash Kaplan (or better yet, return it) and get RR.

I have grubers, used it during spring break last year, i feel that it didnt help because the question do not resemble real sat question, but if u dont know math it might help

well, i think im going to get it because i already have a high CR score and was only really looking to boost my math and writing scores

Whats so good about rocket review? I looked through it and the whole thing looked like stratagies and gimmicks. Xiggi doesn't recomend it really either. The books opens with the interesting line "This is the best Sat prep book ever writtin" I wouldn't want to study a book writtin by someone who opens up with that...

I dont like Rocket review either , its just too long,,,,

can someone give me a link to info/place to buy Grammatix. I cant find it on amazon

I used Grubbers and learned the words on the list that I didn't know already, and I think it worked out really well--800 verbal.

There are some things in RocketReview that I didn't like, but I did improve 200 points because of the strategies I agreed with and some practice (from PSAT in Oct. to March SAT). Overall, it probably accounted for 25% of my improvement; the rest being practice.
