I'm a Marine in Afghanistan who is applying to GS for the Fall of 2013. I had a lower hs GPA in HS, but that was 4 years ago so I'm not worried about it. I have taken 2 college classes from 2 different colleges, 1 on base in Okinawa in 2010 and 1 was a community college night class. My college gpa so far is 3.5, 1 A and 1 B; I am currently enrolled in 2 classes online while I'm deployed and want to take many as I can. I'm curious as to how many classes would I need to complete to have a good chance at getting in? I mean I could get a 3.75 or higher just by getting 2 more A's then applying with only 4 classes completed. I'm not worried about any other aspect besides the GPA criteria.

It really depends. You should contact the admissions office and speak with a representative. They’re familiar with evaluating military candidates, and can tell you what’s sufficient. At a glance without exceptional test scores (military or civilian) or something else, I would imagine GS would want more classes to prove you’re ready for the really rigorous classrooms at Columbia. However only the admissions office can really give you appropriate guidance based on your circumstances.
