Hey all, I have a question regarding the GSAE. Is it only offered on the Columbia campus in New York, or is there a way to have it proctored somewhere locally? I live in Texas and would prefer to not fly up to NY for the test. I realize that re-taking the SAT is an option, but I'd also prefer to avoid studying all the high school Geometry that I've forgotten since 2003. =)

You can definitely take the GSAE outside NYC. I took it in Los Angeles. Also, the website will tell you that you have to take it after submitting Part I of your application – this isn’t necessarily true if you’re outside NYC. (For example, the GSAE is only offered twice a year in LA, so I took it in October and submitted my app for early decision on March 1.) I would call the office to find out what the closest location for you will be – make sure to sign up early since they’re usually not offered very frequently.

Hm, don’t see anything in Texas for the rest of the year. Damn…

I would call to make sure – I don’t remember seeing the CA locations on their website either, but a representative told me when they were and I signed up over the phone. Also, even if there aren’t locations in TX you might be able to find ones closer than NYC.
