I'm an out of state student living in lansing, michigan. I was wondering if the OOS tuition of ~36,500 is worth it compared to attending the local college (michigan state university -ranked nationally in the 70's) for ~21,000. I want to major in BME and pre-med if I go to GT and Chem E. +premed if I go to MSU.

If the goal is to go to med school, then the only thing that I would care about is the admit rate of each school to top med programs. If Tech and MSU are placing students into the same med schools at the same rates, does the engineering ranking really matter as long as you get into a med program?

Have you looked at Michigan? Personally, I’d take that in-state over GT out-of-state anyday.

hm. the thing is that i also want to have a fallback degree because getting into med. school is hard.

I just found out about the co-op program. I’l look into it. Do you get credit for co-op?

also looking at rotc.

No. You co-op for pay in addition to the regular requirements for your degree. This usually means that you graduate in 5 years instead of 4, but for about 1.5 of those years, you were working full time and earning salary.

If you’re trying to get into med school…go with the cheaper option for sure. Med schools do not weigh the quality of your undergrad institution nearly as much as they weigh gpa, mcat scores, and volunteer work.

Apply anyway though, see what kind of financial aid GT give you. I’m an out-of-state student and GT gives me a pretty hefty “OOS Grant” that makes paying for this school as much as paying for my in-state home schools. You can’t apply for it, they just hand them out as they see fit. There’s no hurting applying (except the application fee and time required to apply), then just analyze the financial aid package before making your decision.

There is no application fee for financial aid, right Mr. Bojangles? Just app fee for admission.

Right, I just meant $60 or whatever it is now to submit an application for admission.
