Did applicants who received merit rewards get an early notification? Or does this mean that those who didn't receive an email were rejected?

Don't worry, I didn't get an email, but I still got accepted today through the mail with an invite to the scholars program.

What is the scholars program?

I was nominated for a the Scholars program as well. How many people are nominated? As for some basic info...

"The Union College Scholars Program aims to enhance the undergraduate experience by offering selected students an opportunity to take more classes and smaller, more intensive classes. The Program also offers a range of social and intellectual activities and events throughout the year.

Each year, a select group of applicants to Union College is offered the opportunity to apply to the program. Students already enrolled at Union cannot be added to the program, but plans for similar opportunities for qualified current students are underway.

Union Scholars carry an extra course in at least two of their four years at no extra cost. In addition, they enroll a special two-term Scholars Preceptorial seminar in the freshman year and do a two-term independent study with a professor in the sophomore year. They are strongly encouraged to take the Scholars Colloquium in the senior year.

Besides these program features, Union Scholars have the option to take even more extra courses at no extra cost. All Scholars may take up to ten courses a year, and those with the requisite 3.35 GPA may take as many as eleven courses a year at no extra cost.

Students who complete the program successfully will receive a "Union Scholar" designation on their transcripts. "
