Guidance counselors for non-HS students?

I apologize if this isn't the correct forum for this question, but I didn't really know where else to ask.

I was wondering if anyone knew if there were professionals who served the same purpose as guidance counselors do in high schools, but to non-HS students.

In college they are advisors. If you are not in college and are looking to talk to someone about college you can talk to an admissions rep.

I was under the impression that admissions officers only fielded questions related to the school for which they work.

Ask your questions on here. The experience of the posters is vast.

Private college counselors will also work with adult students who are returning to school.

To be honest, the situation that begs my questions really crosses the line of being “believable,” so I thought that consulting with a private counselor would be better, as it would allow me to provide documentation to show that I’m not making things up.

There are some private counselors on this site, so perhaps your question could be about finding and hiring a private counselor.

search the posts - I recall that someone asked a similar question this year. We used a paid consultant because we felt our S’s HS guidance department was inadequate.

I tried to utilize the search function, but unfortunately terms like “college” and “counselor” are quite common on a college forum.

I also ended up contacting a few of the listings that I was able to find online; every service that I called (or read about) specializes in high school students seeking an edge in top ranked college admission. Unfortunately, this is quite a bit different from my situation, that of a semi uni student with awful problems who needs some help figuring out what to do next.

Go sit down with someone at your local community college. They have heard many stories, I am certain, and tend to be quite empathetic.
