GW Transfer Competitive?

Hi all,

I’m a second year at GW thinking about transferring to Georgetown (possibly SFS) as a junior.

My stats:
GWU Sophomore International Affairs Major
College GPA: 3.9
High School GPA: Low, 3.4 weighted? Competitive public high school.
ACT: 34, SAT: 1420/1600 or 2080/2400

Internships:
Council on Foreign Relations, Research Assistant for a professor in Beijing, U.S. Peace Corps, Legislative Intern for a Senator on Capitol Hill

Extracurriculars:
Hertog Political Studies Program Fellow: Competitive summer program on political philosophy and foreign policy
A few e-board leadership positions, one community service, one pre-law, one advocacy

Volunteer:
Volunteered at a legal clinic, as an English language tutor for migrant children in Beijing, for a HHS Head Start as part of Alternative Spring Breaks in Cherokee Nation

Awards:
National AP Scholar, California State Assembly Award of Rec., San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee’s scholarship, Gilman Scholarship (from the Department of State for a study abroad semester in Peking University, Beijing)

Misc:
First generation college student, low-income/minority background, studied abroad in Nicaragua in high school.

Looking to transfer because I dislike the school environment at GW. Little sense of cohesion among the students. Also not a fan of the school administration.

Any advice on transferring?

My advice: call the admissions office and ask for the email of the transfer coordinator(s). Or, since you’re right down the road, just stop by and ask to speak to the admissions officer on duty. Have some specific questions you’d like to ask.

Why do you not like GWU?

@IslanderGW For whatever reason, the Georgetown admissions office loves kids from AU and GW (or maybe they just get a lot of apps, I don’t know). I myself transferred from American. It sounds like you’ve got a good shot at getting in, just be sure to nail your essays and do your research on which professors you’d like to work with here (Grad students all know that old trick). Also, consider not submitting your SAT and just giving them your ACT; that’s what I did.
