Hey everyone!
So, I was recently accepted off the wait list for GW! However, I have already committed to Lehigh (entering as a freshman, undergrad). Basically, I'm having a hard time deciding if I should accept GW's offer or not! I love DC, but I don't want to pick the school solely off of that. I loved GW when I visited, although I didn't like the lack of campus. I also wasn't sure about the science department, although I didn't get the chance to meet professors or anything. Lehigh is known for having a great science program (I'm planning on majoring in the sciences, i.e. physics, neuroscience, etc). I'm really torn, and I know I'd get a great education at both institutions, but the real thing that has me torn is the science department and lack of a traditional "college campus."

Any opinions? Thoughts?

D.C. Is one of the schools biggest strengths, they market their location really heavily. I’ve heard the science department isn’t great. They’re building a new science building, but it won’t be done until 2015 so it won’t affect us. If you are doing science and not poli sci or IA, lehigh would b better academically for sciences

Surely, a building does not reflect the strength of anything. Why don’t you check the backgrounds of the faculty of, for instance, the GW chemistry and physics departments.
I think you’ll be impressed.

Also, you being interested in neuroscience, I am sure you are aware that GW’s med school is the 2nd most difficult to get into in the U.S. with a <3% acceptance rate?

I say GW has great science & engineering departments, notwithstanding all the opportunities and contacts the students can establish in Washington, D.C. even before they graduate!

Loretta,
I would approach the choice from a different angle. Lehigh is a good school, but to be honest, Bethlehem, PA is a really ****ty place; sorry to anyone who is from there. DC on the other hand is a great and fun city.

I am a little biased towards your question because my brother went to Lehigh out of high school and hated it, he wound up transferring after a single semester. This doesn’t mean it is the case for you. Lehigh is a lot less diverse than GW, something that my brother found unappealing.

GW has more types of people around, making it easier to fit in and I think more things to do other than just get wasted at frat parties, but the great thing about GW is that you still have that option even though its not the only option.

I go to GW and love it. My brother, who is very similar, to me went to Lehigh and it was not for him. So I would go with GW:)
