I recieved a card in the mail from GWU encouraging me to apply ED II. It IS my top choice, but I was planning on doing RD because I have Tufts down as a (big) reach school, and in a worst case scenario my parents wouldn't now if I could honor the ED commitment if my finicial aid packet isn't big enough.

So, I don't even know why I'm asking this, seeing as how my parents wouldn't be able to get in my fin aid info by the EDII deadline anyways, but the card had two bulletins on it that didn't make me feel very good about my chances. They reminded me of rolling admissions, even though GWU supposedly doesn't do that.

“Every year we have regular admission applicants who have qualifications very similar to those we have admitted “early” but who are not offered admission due to space constraints. This reflects the weight given to ED applications…”

and
“Unlike regular decision, we don’t have to limit the number of early decision admission offers.”

Does this mean that they have a previously determined number of Regular Decision students they can admit? And are all RD applications put into the same pile, UNLIKE rolling where your chances are higher if you apply early? I'm just making sure that applying a week or so before the RD deadline won't hurt me, even though I'm counting on the fact that a low number of GWU's admits actually attend there in the end to help me.

Mi_Lie, GW's website is more important than any comments you'll read here. But here's my take:
The financial aid deadline is not the EDII application deadline. Applying ED is supposedly not related to the ED committment. The finaid package is due at the normal time, I believe.
Secondly, GW doesn't offer rolling admissions. They admit (or reject) EDI and EDII applicants; then the number of Reg Decision candidates they accept is affected by the number they have already accepted under the binding ED programs. So if they accept a huge ED class, that simply reduces the number of RD offers of acceptance they will make.
If you apply RD, you can apply one day before the RD deadline, or 3 weeks before. It won't make any difference as long as your material is sent by the RD deadline.

Does that help? If I misunderstood your questions, please let me know and we'll take another stab at it.

The only thing is, my parents are really pressuring me to switch to EDII now, but I already submitted Part I online under Reg Decision. I emailed them about it, but I don't know how long their winter break is, and hopefully they'll be able to change me to EDII in time without my entire info being erased.

I got the same postcard in the mail, and I switched my application to ED II. I only switched it on January 5. I called the FinAid office because I saw the deadline had passed, and they said that I could still submit everything. The only difference they said was that I would receive my scholarship package about a week after everyone else (assuming I finish it this weekend). To change your application you can e-mail or you can call directly which is faster and what I did. They were very helpful when I called both offices.
