Gym Membership at Binghamton

Is it worth it to become a member of the fitness center at the university? Do most students become members of it if they want to be able to work out? Are there any gyms besides the main fitness center at the university which don't require a membership/fees?

The gym membership for students is $65 per semester and it is a really nice gym. Most people who use the gym on campus do pay for the membership as you can also then access the pool and classes. There is a free weight room in the East Gym that you can use but there is really no cardio equipment there.

I read online that the pool was free to use, is that not true anymore?

I’m not 100% sure about this but I think that there are certain times when members of the gym can use it and other times when it is free and open to everyone.

I was reading on the Binghamton website about a membership not being required for the pool. I’m really excited to use it- I swim a few times a week at the Y but being able to walk to the pool will be amazing.

Yeah. You can also join the swim club if you are interested in competing and swimming laps with others. A few of my friends are on the team and they love it

There are free gyms in Hinman and Newing open to people that live in those communities. They aren’t as nice, and aren’t open as often, but they’re free and at least in Hinman’s case, much closer.
