What are you/your neighborhood planning this year?
Anyone see any cool decorations?
It seems as if our neighborhood is doing the same as last year - trick or treat is on but a lot of us will put the candy out on a table and sit about 6 feet away.
There are tons of “Trunk or Treat” events but I am guessing the older kids will still want to go house to house.
I’m seeing lots of decorations on my neighborhood runs and walks.
Trick or Treat is on in our neighborhood too with covid friendly recommendations to have individual goody bags, no communal candy dish, and the table 6 ft away.
Neighborhood is very decorated!
We are going to an outdoor neighborhood party this weekend and will be giving out full sized candy bars there. We’ll be out of town the actual day of and don’t want the house sitter to have to be responsible for dealing with trick or treaters (or freaking out the dog).
We’re in a cabin in the woods this year. No kiddos, no need for Halloween. I do have some lovely chrysanthemums and several small, uncarved pumpkins on our porch, though. We’ll probably just enjoy our Manhattans around a blazing campfire as we’ve been doing every night since the weather turned cool. But, now that you mention it, I might need to hop on my broom to pick up some Almond Joys and Reese’s PB Cups. Thanks for the reminder.
Small neighborhood of only 14 families and no kid trick or treating. Last year, we adults did a house crawl where everyone put out something to eat and drink at their house. It was so much fun, we are doing it again. I’m making one of the open face sandwiches in the appetizer thread…and probably making some kind of pudding shots. I will have lemonade too. Or maybe hot cocoa depending on the weather.
I miss Halloween we lived in several large family friendly neighborhoods before moving here. I love it, but I miss the “life” during holidays: 4th, Diwali, Halloween, Christmas and Hanukkah; our last neighborhood celebrated it all. I miss trick or treat (no kids here), cul de sac parties and bonfires, houses decorated to the nine. We always did hot apple cider for everyone (spiked and regular) and gave out the full size candy bars. We’re the only house decorated here
We do yard decorations for all the holidays. If I can’t figure out a way to do a candy chute, we’ll probably haul our large, oval patio table to the front walk and sit at one end, sliding candy across it.
Lots of Halloween decor though I was thinking a smidgen less than last year when people were stuck at home.
Last year our city/neighborhood still did trick or treat. Last year I put out a card table and sat a few feet from it and just laid treat options on the table and refilled when needed.
To avoid all the touching I’ll probably do similar this year.
I just bought some candy. We always had 1000+ kids as our street was the place everyone brought their kids from all over the city and county. We skipped last year due to covid. I usually buy 20+ pounds and it’s gone in 1:30. Im toning it down this year. I bought maybe 8 pounds. I don’t want to be flooded with kids for that long. And we have lots of empty houses right around me at the moment so some might skip over us.
I am happy to serve any and all kids that come to our neighborhood to T or T as long as they are polite and being safe. And I’m glad our neighborhood is seen as a safe place to go.
But I saw a post in a nearby well to do suburb of people asking “what neighborhoods is everyone going to to T or T this year?” - my thought was, “um, how about your own neighborhood!” Part of the fun when we were younger (and when my kids went) was stopping and seeing everyone in the neighborhood on the street or at their homes.
For the first time in the 25 years we have lived here, we will not be home for Halloween. Our college freshman has a rugby game that day, the only game we could make it to this fall. Our flight home does not get back until 8:30 pm so trick or treating will have ended by then.
I considered having a neighbor put out a bowl of candy for me but that would be too germy, plus, my dog will be home and if people are constantly coming into the yard while we are gone, he will go bonkers. We had trick or treating last year during Covid - I made individual treat bags and put them on a table on my porch for kids to take.
Halloween decorating has gotten out of control in our neighborhood - now there’s as much pressure as Christmas to do up the lights and displays! Lots of inflatables and other big decorations, lamppost lights changed to orange bulbs, etc. I’m not a fan of making this a major month-long celebration (many decorations went up the last week-end in Sept.)
People in our community are mostly vaxxed, and pretty much living a pre-pandemic life. I’m betting most will give candy from bowls at their doors this year; certainly not building candy chutes unless it’s just for fun. If the weather is nice, people might do the driveway tables again but if it’s really cold, I doubt it. We will be away so I don’t have to think about how to handle the evening!
We’ve only ever had a few kids each year, but there are a lot more kids living in the neighborhood this year so may get more. Um, maybe 20 instead of 5? Quite a few houses in the neighborhood have a lot of outside decorations.
Complicating factor is Halloween is a Sunday, and it’s a home Bronco game. I think most of the parties and Trunk or Treat events will be on Friday and Sat., people will watch the Broncos, and then hit the street at about 5:30.
Lots of decorated homes here and T or T is on just like last year. I’m not worried about germs but found putting the candy on a long table in front of my porch worked so much better than handing it out. I’ll sit on the porch with the dog and talk to everyone- we have a fun and very friendly neighborhood. I love when Halloween falls on the weekend.
