Halp! I don't know what's going to happen!

If you were me, what UCs would you consider safeties for me? Please don't be afraid of being brutal or too harsh. A heavy dose of realism would be helpful.

School Type: meh public school in California

Unranked of 400

SAT: 2180 - 800 critical reading, 650 math, 730 writing (8 essay) - retaking in December

SAT II: Literature - 750
US History - 660

ACT: 32 composite- 34 English, 27 Math, 36 Reading, 29 Science (6 essay) - Superscored 33 composite - 34 English, 30 Math, 36 Reading, 29 Science (8 essay) - retaking in December

AP: US History (4)

GPA: 3.59 UW, 3.89 W. I took on too much last year and ended up failing my first semester of Honors Pre-Calc, so I dropped it for second semester. I'm taking it again this year and have a high C/low B right now. However, my entire schedule last year was AP/Honors, except for French III and open.

I'm a first-generation Chinese-American, fluent in Cantonese and English (with passable Mandarin).

My top schools are UCLA and UCD, and my parents want me to apply to Berkeley and Stanford as well (even though we all know that acceptance there for me is highly unlikely). What UCs should I consider safeties, if any? Thanks for replies.

Your SATs are high, but your GPA is low. This is a worse combination than vice versa. Accordingly, you should apply for the UCs, which is as simple as clicking extra boxes and paying a little more.

UCLA is a reach, while UCD is a low match to match.

Which UC’s would it be most prudent to apply to? Are there any that could be considered near-“safeties” besides Merced?
