Hamilton?

I don't understand why the Kirkland side of the campus is called, "The Dark Side". I attended Hamiliton in the late 70's, and lived on the Kirkland side. There's nothing dark about the buildings. They all have massive floor to ceiling plate glass windows that let in loads of light. When I attended, all the dorm interiors were painted bright colors, and the suites were homey and apartment like. I've not been back in almost thirty years, though, so maybe things have changed drastically. Can someone more familiar with the current Hamilton explain to me why they call the Kirkland campus, The Dark Side?

Poets, I think the "Dark Side" is more creatively affectionate than literal (with a nod to Gary Larson). This style of architecture is also known as "brutalist" ala the Whitney Museum. Its day may come, but for many of us it hasn't yet.
