or at least close to it. Today, I wrote the check for my d's final semester at Smith. I am so thankful for the extraordinary education she has received there - and that Smith made it possible for us to be able to afford it! I think I even have a little left over for a small check to the Smith Fund.

That joy will not be mine until January. At which point I start to contemplate the arduous task of starting to pay down the loans we took. Worth it, though.

One down, one to go. It is daunting to think of how much money we will have spent by the time we are through with child number 2. On the other hand, I can't imagine a better way to have spent it, with both of my kids having discovered the best-of-all-possible-worlds for their respective needs, interests, personalities, etc.

It would be nice, of course, if Smith could fork over a wee rebate in gratitude for the numerous young women my D has persuaded to attend Smith!

Mini, I hope you are feeling better after your recent health adventure.

pesto, a fair number of seniors (and other students, but mostly seniors) do get monetary prizes at Ivy Day, and there are alumnae scholarships for students attending grad school...perhaps that "rebate" is not as farfetched as you might think!

stacy -- wouldn't that be nice! although I fear it would still be just a drop in the bucket...enough to buy a nice bottle of champagne, perhaps?

Pesto --
There's another thread in the Smith section about networking.

That's the rebate...and it's very valuable. The alums that went to Smith before your daughter, and the students she's recruited that will come after provide grad school and job connections, immediate friends each time you move, availability to lifetime career and coping advice....and a host of other benefits.

Well, I wrote the check today. Happiest day of the year..hmmm..NO! Maybe most grateful I don't have to write anymore 5 figure checks to college day!!
:)
