Happy Halloween

Oh gosh I think that’s awful! I’ve never heard of age limit before - I believe you but have never heard that!

I’ve heard of the age limits for organized TOT events like those mall crawl kinds of Store or Treat events, but all ages were game in the three local towns we live(d) here. Wild type teens were known to run (often costumeless!) through our neighborhood in one of these towns just before 8 pm to clean out the last bits of unwanted candy. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Our neighborhood has no ToT hours nor ages. That said, we were only home until 7pm and only had very little ones. I offered small containers of play dough and let each one choose their color. I let the little neighbor grandchild have two and all the others have one. Gave our pharmacist’s kids 10 (all the different colors).

Also set aside treats for my grand nieces & grand nephews with play dough and flavored gummy bears — had organic gummy bears on standby and small packs of cookies on deep standby. Never even finished the play dough! oh well, can gift the play dough for stockings.

We have an age limit and a time limit. Dusk to 8 p.m., and only 12-and-under. Older kids don’t come around.

I fondly remember TorT when I was young, when we would wander the streets for hours. It’s all so different now. I am over trick-or-treating. We still did it for years after our youngest turned 13. I don’t even know any of the kids anymore. Last year we didn’t do it because of the pandemic. For several years before, since my H was the one who wanted to continue, I let him be the one to answer the door.

H actually agreed to end it for good (that might have had something to do with his injured ankle).

Boo Humbug!

Funny, Halloween is one holiday I feel IS still much like when we were younger. Where ever I’ve lived there has always been a designated time slot - usually 6-8pm. Even as kids we had either a parent or an older sibling following along with us. Our current neighborhood reminds me a lot of the neighborhood we ventured out in for T or T - right down to being on a boulevard!

I love the simplicity. A costume. Some candy. A couple of hours of outside time and collecting sweet treasure. Maybe a school party/parade with costume. The warmth of the house when you return and spilling the candy on the living room carpet/rug and checking it, sorting it, trading it (even when we were young you had to “check” the candy - crazy people even back then!) The next day the costume gets put away but that plastic pumpkin stays around for a bit with goodies for days.

Ours was 3-8 pm. I hand out candy to anyone - costume or not. I’ve only encountered polite T or T. Really, life already has too much stress that I say just enjoy it! Our NextDoor app was blowing up about kids taking all the candy ( and of course the bowl) that someone put out.

We had two little neighbors who came by at about 3:30. They were very cute and their dad said they just couldn’t wait any longer! I had just been around the neighborhood walking the dog and there were already several tables set up, and a few notices on Nextdoor welcoming people to help themselves.

The big rush came at 5:30, when the Bronco game ended.
