Hardest Major

I would say pre-med, engineering and architecture

I was randomly going through this thread as well as the similar one:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/engineering-majors/43510-what-hardest-majors.html

and I must say I disagree with nearly everybody’s rankings.

Having been exposed to a lot of work in various majors, this is how I would rate the order of difficulty:

Pre-AA/AS (lower-division):

(1) Mechanical engineering
(2) Chemical Engineering
(3) Physics
(4) Computer Engineering
(5) Civil Engineering
(6) Mathematics
(7) Chemistry
(8) Statistics

Post-AA/AS (upper-division):

(1) Mathematics
(2) Physics
(3) Statistics
(4) Engineering (all types)
(5) Computer Science
(6) Chemistry
(7) Economics
(8) Philosophy

As far as amount of time required, however, computer science and computer engineering would be at the top of the list. All that said, I am not sure on how to break down the engineering for upper-division.

Of course these lists are subjective (and may be slightly different if I were going to a different school) and not comprehensive, but anybody who places math below engineering is dead wrong in my opinion, at least past the lower-division level. After taking a course in analysis, tell me I’m wrong.
