Harvard 2020 Waitlist Discussion

@waddups

that’s very weird, well not getting accepted to Cornell, but being rejected by Brown and Dartmouth despite your efforts. I guess this shows that essay isn’t too important. Perhaps you are not just kind of student that Brown and Dartmouth is look for.

My results are:

Accepted: Cornell
Waitlisted: Brown, Dartmouth, Penn, Harvard
Rejected: Yale, Princeton, Columbia

@idkName whoa that’s crazy, I didn’t apply to Brown or Columbia, but other than that we had the exact same results!

@idkName Well, maybe not the Dartmouth type, but I have had many teachers and counselors tell me I’m perfect for Brown (my HS curriculum is very related to their open curriculum which I took very good advantage of). Not bitter though. I’m happy to go to Cornell. I would also be happy if I got off of HY or Columbia’s waitlist. Still unsure if I would go to Penn, however.

Hey guys! How did yall submit letter of recommendations? Did your recommenders give you the letter for you to submit or did you have a specific link?

@zoomloom I assume people added them under the waitlist update link. Or if you want Harvard to know that you haven’t seen it, I imagine you can ask the recommender to email/ mail a sealed letter directly to Harvard (along with an assurance that you’ve had no contact with it).

That’s right, you are supposed to login to your portal and upload the document via the Forms section just below the Status Update. If you are successful in uploading then it will show up in the Application Checklist.

My results are:

accepted: none lol
waitlisted: harvard, princeton, dartmouth
rejected: penn, brown, columbia, yale
didn’t apply: cornell

Out of all of them, I thought my short answers for Brown were the most creative and strong. Coincidentally, I used the same essay for all the schools I was waitlisted at.

waiting to hear about their yielding rate this year

Does anyone know when the earliest we might hear is? Sorry to be that super obnoxious person always asking when things might happen >:D<

@Smythe I was told mid/end May.

@Smythe I thought May 2nd, but if anyone heard they’re not telling. People who claim to have actual information say the 12/13.

Welcome to the club of super-obnoxious people always asking when things might happen. We like to refer to ourselves by the pseudonym “on the Harvard waitlist.” :slight_smile:

@hamotron: See post #84

Gibby - I PM’ed you.

@gibby @amyisraelchai says a friend called and was told late next week.

@Hamotron: Yes, that means the first round of waitlist notices would go out between the 1st and 2nd week of May, which is consistent with what I wrote in Post #84.

FWIW: There are more multiple rounds of waitlist notices, as Admissions needs to give each student sufficient time to think about their options (usually a week). See post #72.

@gibby Indeed it is, it’s simply good to have confirmation from multiple sources.

As a side note, tagging only works if you spell the username right. :slight_smile:

^^ Corrected :slight_smile:

Does anyone have the fax number to send a letter of recommendation to Adcoms? Will it even help at thi point? I plan on sending it out tonight or early tomorrow and following up with a call/ Ty

^^ FAX number is on their website: https://college.harvard.edu/contact-us

Just called the admissions office earlier this afternoon and we were told that the first wave of letters will go out on the 12th.
