The “Status Update” button? Try testing again now. Mine seems to be working fine.
Yep, working now after 24 hours. Looks the same. Did this happen before to anyone in this forum?
It’s happening already for internationals… very sad.

My question is why would anyone, not just international students, go to an airport in Europe or Russia to come to US at this moment? Ongoing bilateral travel bans are still in place, except for essential workers or citizens.
Harvard, if you plan to spend millions on legal fees to fight for internationals, please cut tuition for everyone. Princeton did 10%, you can too. Also, don’t forget you have a bunch of us here on US soil waiting to be taken off WL…
I think international students deserve Harvard’s defense and protection. I’d rather have my peers benefit from a legal case protecting them than theoretically have a couple grand taken off of my tuition. Yeah, it sucks they didn’t reduce tuition this year, but that doesn’t mean that anyone should be denied access to a university they’ve worked hard to attend. Students also have the option to take a gap year. Also, don’t assume the financial neediness or lack thereof of international students.
Harvard is offering 2 free online classes which is a lot more than other schools are offering (a lot of schools aren’t decreasing tuition and are giving nothing to students). Also as mentioned, if students aren’t happy to pay that amount no one is forcing them to attend Harvard. They can take a gap year or choose another institution.
@waitlistedsenior Yup, we at this forum all hope gap apps surpass expectations. Which continent/time zone are you from?
@strawbri13 Agree. But still two free summer courses are “take it or leave it”. Plus, their summer offerings are much reduced in selection or teaching talent. 10% tuition reduction like Princeton will be a solid benefit for family.
I would personally be spending a lot of time getting to know and love the school you will be nearly certain to be attending next fall. Or making plans. It’s only 6 or 7 weeks away.
“Harvard is offering 2 free online classes which is a lot more than other schools are offering…”
That will only be available next summer after you pay for the full year and summer offerings may not be what the students are looking for.
Its unfortunate that the WL is still not resolved. I know right now all Harvard families are debating what to do next year. Close to 50% will be taking a gap year I imagine. But its good that Harvard keeps its tradition for its freshmen to let them live in the Yard and dine in the Berg.
Limbo… limbo… limbo
Doesn’t look like the government will let go easy…

Even a temporary injunction can only stop the ICE decree for 10 days. The defendant can always stall by asking to review new documents or provide new documents etc. Months can be gone before a verdict is made. H needs to make a clean-cut plan B decision soon - WL!
How specifically does this recent order impact the admissions for waitlisted Harvard students? How many waves have there been up to this point and are we expecting any last-minute ones?
If they stated that end of June was their expected end date for accepting waitlist students, should we be expecting a new expected end date (especially when considering the extended waitlist for other Ivies?)
No portal changes, email or calls - CA
@2024senior : our best guess is that there was only one wave at the end of May where only about a dozen or less WL applicants were given offers. Thereafter, rejections went out later that week purging a large number of waitlistees. We don’t know how many are still hanging on…
Just to let you guys know: someone I know was recently admitted off the Harvard waitlist. I don’t know what this means for the rest of us. Could mean that the waitlist is still ‘moving’…
@BingTheBong Thanks for sharing. How recent? This week or last? Domestic or international?
@2024senior The WL update email said “by the end of June or shortly thereafter”. “Shortly” is hard to define given the extended gap app deadline of July 24 and the ICE deportation decree and ongoing lawsuit.
Guys, do we know when freshmen are expected to submit housing apps and eta of assignment? We know the tuition payment deadline is Aug 15. Safe to assume the final wave will be between July 24 and Aug 15, if there is one.
COVID-19 will drive the change in WL week-by-week. Compared to a week ago, we now have daily new cases of 60,000+ and new research saying on top of lung complications, serious damage to the brain is possible with recovered patients. Looking at other forums, more parents are uncomfortable with their teenagers leaving home for college now. This might increase gap apps and LOA apps. Gap apps will affect us on the WL.
@LimboKid I’m in Eastern Time so going to an Ivy, even online, wouldn’t be too much of a struggle logistically.
I think it’s interesting that looking on this thread there hasn’t been a single day where multiple people have gotten in (i don’t think anyone on this thread has even directly gotten in), same on Reddit as well, whereas in the past years’ threads there are multiple days where multiple people get offers/z-list offers. It could just be a coincidence or it might mean that the bulk of waitlist offers are yet to come.
@waitlistedsenior So you are here in the States already? Good, hope things work out for you with that ICE thing.
I didn’t go back far enough but what is your gut feel of the % kids got dropped in May vs. total kids on this WL thread?
Given that I am international, what will be the chances for me to get off the waitlist? Would the new ICE regulations and subsequent complications hurt my chances as they may prefer to admit a student living in the US?
Just speculation but if you are open to taking classes online from your home country, I doubt your international status will be a deterrent. If you haven’t already expressed this willingness in your LOCI, you might send an email to admissions.
I should add, at this stage students that are willing to commit to fall 2020 under ANY circumstances (those who are the most flexible) will probably have the best chances IF any spots are available.
