Hey guys, I haven’t seen a post anywhere for Columbia University’s RD waitlist 2023, so I made one.
How much people are on the waitlist this year? How many people are they possibly going to admitt from the waitlist?
@ColumbiaUni2023 they do not publish stats about the waitlist so it is hard to say. In the past, some years they have admitted about 50, sometimes 0.
Hey peeps, really hoping to get off the waitlist!
I got waitlisted literally at so many schools. Bruh one of these schools better pull through, I’m hoping maybe I’ll get off of berkeley’s because I know Columbia doesn’t have a high waitlist acceptance rate. I’m commiting to USC for computer science
Hey guys. Does anyone know whether Columbia takes financial aid into consideration when reviewing the waitlisted candidates? I’m international btw
@alexmake I found this on their website,
“All applicants who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States or students granted refugee visas by the United States are read in a need-blind manner, no matter where they attend school or where they reside. The term “need-blind” means financial need has no bearing on the admissions decision. All other applicants are evaluated in a need-aware manner, which means that the admissions committee takes into consideration how much financial aid a student requires when rendering an admissions decision. Columbia admits a large number of foreign students who receive a substantial amount of financial aid.”
I really hope this year there is at least some openings for people on the waitlist.
I got waitlisted at Columbia, Cornell, CMU, Harvard, and Penn
I got waitlisted at Columbia but I am committing to Wellesley College for now. I really love Wellesley, but I love Columbia more. If I get off Columbia’s waitlist idk what I am going to do.
Does anyone have a rough idea of how many people did Columbia waitlist this year?
same @yuelotus I´m planning on going to Cornell and I really like it but I also really like Columbia, we´ll just have to wait and see! How many people are in college or in seas? I applied for seas
Columbia always accepts some off the waitlist but they do not disclose numbers. Students figure it out by new additions to the FB groups. Most years there have been 3 waves of wait list acceptances but last year it seemed to be only 2 and less people than the year before. Because Columbia guarantees on campus housing all 4 years they have to be pretty conservative when estimating their yield so they tend to go to the waitlist more than some similar schools. Housing selection has been tighter than normal for the upperclassmen this year so perhaps less than normal have left for whatever reason which may/may not impact on the wait list too.
@ccccguideg Does this apply to Barnard as well?
No idea, their admissions are totally separate. Not even sure if they do the FB groups like they do at Columbia.
I’m a waitlisted international. I haven’t been on a campus vistit. Will it help my chances if I visit
@olooooolo sorry for the late response! Columbia doesn’t release exact numbers for waitlists as someone stated before. I applied to Columbia College. I hope you get into SEAS! I just submitted my LOCI.
I know this thread has been a bit inactive so if anyone is still on here, I just wanted to say that I think the first batch of waitlist acceptance offers are going to be released on May 10th. For the past two years, they’ve released the first batch on the second Friday of May (May 11th for 2018 and May 12th for 2017) so they will probably do so again this year.
@yuelotus thanks, you too! I also think it will come out next Friday!
@olooooolo no problem, and thanks! Honestly, my LOCI was a complete love letter to Columbia with some updates of what I’ve been up to. I deadass quoted The Histories by Herodotus (which is read in Literature Humanities) so they gotta let me in now, right? Lmao
