Cornell is not allowing waitlisted applicants who then are accepted to request a gap year; they must matriculate in fall 2020. obviously this doesn’t directly dictate other schools, but something to note.
@myevma Just curious, would you choose Harvard over Stanford?
Apparently Brown released there first waves of waitlist acceptances today. On the Brown thread it says they are notifying them of their acceptance of the waitlist earlier than the intended date (May 1). Schools, including ivies, must be experiencing low yield/ enrollment rates across the board. Obviously Brown isn’t Harvard, but this is still a good sign!
@myevma wow!! Congratulations on Stanford!! I hope you get into Harvard if that’s where you would rather go but Stanford is amazing!
@myevma I totally understand that. I think schools can lose some of their luster when you grow up nearby, and I would definitely rather have the experience of living somewhere new.
I hope Harvard works out for you, but you’re in a great position regardless. Congrats!
Just because we’re both CA waitlistees, what do you plan on majoring in?
@myevma definitely something in humanities. Most likely English, but I want to explore different subjects before I decide.
is it too late to upload an arts supplement? would you do that via slide room? their slide room page has an early action deadline and a regular decision deadline, but doesn’t say anything about waitlist. or how else did people upload music or dance supplements at this point?
welp. someone from harvard (and the radcliffe institute for advanced study) viewed my linkedin profile in the last week. could be unrelated, but way to get my hopes up … </3
Question: I know that at a lot of schools, being full pay helps to get off the waitlist. I know that Harvard is technically need-blind, but have there ever been patterns of more full-need ppl getting off the waitlist in the past? Bc if I somehow got in, I’d only get a bit of aid anyway so I’m not too against changing my finaid status if it’ll help.
I’ve heard of this happening at other schools and I’m not sure if it’s true. Although I do know that Harvard’s endowment is pretty substantial so I don’t know if they would necessarily pay too much attention to financial need. I think they are more concerned with preserving diversity.
Is there a way to contact your local admissions offer? Also, where did y’all upload the additional recommendation letter for the waitlist update? Thanks
I called the admissions office just after I got waitlisted and the person I spoke to recommended sending additional letters of rec through the link that was provided when you first submitted the application-you’ll give that link to your recommender.
And I couldn’t find info about regional admissions officers. Maybe someone else has some more helpful insight on that?
The regional AOs do NOT want you to contact them, as referenced by Gibby several times. I wouldn’t try to cross the bounds to be honest.
Appreciate the help. Is the link you’re talking about through the Common Application?
Happy to help! And no, the link isn’t in the Common App. After submitting your application, Harvard should have sent you an email called “Confirming Your Application to Harvard”. Within it is a unique link that you can share with recommenders so that they can upload a letter and it is automatically put in your file.
And how exactly do you or Gibby know what admissions officers prefer? Have they explicitly stated so or are you just assuming?
They’ve referenced it several times before on this sub, and why else would harvard hide the AO names? Only because they want to contact you, not the other way around.
In that case, could you post a link to where a Harvard admissions officer references what you’ve stated? I can’t seem to find it

I have committed to S
Well even if you wanted to, no one knows AO emails. They do not show them.
The only way you can contact your AO is if they do so themselves first.
