Harvard 30 - Yale 24, 3OT

Three or four of the posters here are Harvard students. Another few are aspiring students, or alums. I think the only person who isn't related to Harvard might be you, Prefontaine.

Dad, I almost got one for you too. I'll see if I can track another one down.

What facts are distorted here? Enlighten us.

And if my saying: "For other schools it's big news if they get a Rhodes scholar. For Harvard it's big news if they don't.", is somehow pompous, then I'd point out to you that it was you, not me, who hijacked a football thread to announce that Harvard hadn't won any Rhodes this year. Apparently YOU did consider that fact to be big news.

I'll wear it to work :)

When I was an undergrad, the most popular game shirts were

"Bulldog: The Other White Meat"
and
"Bulldog: It's What's For Dinner."

For the record, the Harvard Club of Chicago and Yale Club of Chicago continued a decade-old tradition of jointly renting out a bar & grill to watch the game together with some pizza and beer. It was a great party; we're probably going to have to move to a bigger venue next year.

The Crimson on The Game:

<a href="http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=510055%5B/url%5D">http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=510055</a></p>

Much of the gloating in the piece is a little too over the top for my taste, but I did think this quote was funny:

"The legendary Green Bay Packers’ coach Vince Lombardi said, “Winning is habit. So is losing.” It seems that Yale has taken the wrong side of the quotation to heart."

eyezonharvard: MSU did manage to beat Notre Dame. Is anybody going to deny that ND is a great team?

Just to add a bit of evidence to build on what others have already said: our lack of Rhodes Scholars this year was so aberrant that it made the front page of the Crimson, above the fold. A one-year drought proves little, however.

Oh, and by the way, I'd just like to add that not only were our shirts creative, but also our chants were much more fun. As the ed linked to earlier mentioned, I don't think I heard the Yalies chant anything other than "Harvard Sucks." I'm not sure if my favorite was "Yale starts wars" or the ever-popular "Saaaafety Schooool," which the Yalies could not think of a reply to. (That's not to completely bash Yale, for all of those worried about Harvard arrogance. The people there were really cool and incredibly smart and treated me exceptionally. All in good fun.)

Local news clip about The Game. See if you can spot me!

Here's some stuff I found comparing the schools for Rhodes Scholarships. The numbers are at the bottom. I think this is where Bylery got his numbers. Looks like all the HPYS numbers are awesome!

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes_Scholarship%5B/url%5D">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes_Scholarship</a></p>

I was told that Harvard can afford to rile Yale because both Harvard and Yale students know that there is no real difference among them and in fact, it is very likely that their sibling attends the other college. In fact, I know plenty of families with members more or less evenly split among H and Y. So it's all in good fun, not to be taken seriously, and as Hanna suggests, it is possible for alums of the two schools to combine forces and watch The Game together.
