<p>After the Larry Summers debacle, this is hardly a surprise. I know a number of alums who didn't give this year because they were so disgusted with the FAS faculty and Summers' desperate, and extremely expensive, attempts to buy them off. If they've got money to throw around like that, they don't need any more from me.</p>

<p>Hmm, I'd rather donate to stop aids in Africa than to a school that has an endowment rivaling most small nations.</p>

<p>That is the cliche response, of course, even though - to use your example - the most effective way to deal with aids in Africa may be to contribute to research at Harvard Medical School.</p>

<p>actually the school of public health is truthfully doing some amazing things in africa, really quite humbling.</p>
