Harvard Badminton

I myself passionately play badminton.
How competitive is badminton at Harvard?
Are most members national champions or just busy students playing to relax and have fun?
Honest answers would be appreciated.
Thx

Google should always be your best friend: GoCrimson.com[/url”>http://recreation.gocrimson.com/recreation/club_sports/pages/Badminton]GoCrimson.com

I’m sure the email contact for the club can more expediently and honestly answer your question.

thanks, any current students though?

As the Harvard Badminton Club only has 41 likes on their facebook page, I’m not sure how many club members you will find here on CC.

I’m on their email list but have never been. I think they have plenty of casual members.

is it possible for me to get recruited in badminton, ie. be a recruited athlete?

Badminton isn’t a big sport in America and I’m not sure if it’s even an intercollegiate sport, so I guess you being recruited as a badminton player is unlikely. However, don’t take my word for it, email the Harvard badminton coach or director if you’re interested.

^^ A quick check of Harvard athletics indicates that Badminton is not a recognized intercollegiate sport: [The Official Website of Harvard University Athletics - Harvard](Harvard University - Official Athletics Website). Therefore, Harvard does not recruit athletes for Badminton.

Another google search produced this [Intercollegiate Badminton Association](http://www.ibabadminton.com/IBAnortheast.htm)
Although as gibby’s mentioned, badminton is not a reconginized intercollegiate sport, there seems to be some sort of intercollegiate competition that the team partakes of.

Just found this thread as I was doing some admin stuff and wanted to introduce myself!

Hi! I’m Kathy – current President and coordinator of all things dealing with the Harvard Badminton Club at the moment.
As alluded to by the other members’ posts, we have tons of players, but more on the casual side. However, our team has gone to two competitions in the last year and look forward to going to more if there is interests from the undergrads! We definitely have a lot of members who have played at a competitive level before.
A large contingency of the club are grad students, postdocs, etc who are mostly not native to the US and therefore have a deeper interest in badminton, but we have a sizeable undergraduate member population as well.

Badminton is NOT an intercollegiate sport. We do not recruit. It is recognized as a “club sport.”

If you’re ever in the area and want to check out our practices, please contact us (via facebook or use your excellent google skills to email me) and we’d be glad to have you.
