Harvard Book Award?

the name of the award is the harvard prize book because it is a book about harvard that you get as an academic prize...

at my school the headmaster says that the harvard book award and yale book award are "available through the generosity of the local chapters of the yale/harvard clubs to two outstanding members of the junior class as voted on by the faculty." My friend got the harvard one, but he's 6th in the class- I got yale and I'm first, but we both have/had substantial leadership/athletic commitments, etc. Each school awards per its own discretion. I have several other awards "sponsored" by universities; Sewanee, U. of Rochester, etc.

ooh, i see now. :) that's rather... cute.

At my school, our Headmaster is a prominent Harvard alum, and for the past several years at my school, recipients of the Harvard book award have all gone to Harvard. Our school doesn't rank students, so it isn't always given to the person with the highest GPA. It is a bit of a conspiracy, because only the Harvard book award seems to predict admittance into Harvard. For instance, the recipient of the Yale award was rejected by Yale. It is a bit of a mystery @ my schoo....

My son received the Yale book award last year (his junior year). He got deferred in EA but accepted in RD. Yale had always been my son's dream school (that's why he applied EASC) although he did fall in love with Northwestern's 7-year HPME program later (after his Yale deferral). He ended up getting accepted by both Yale and NU's HPME as well as the other 4 top-tier schools he applied to. He remained true to his "first love" and chose to attend Yale in the fall. While the Yale book award by itself didn't necessarily promise anything, but it certainly didn't hurt.

So, only certain high schools are on the list to receive such awards? At my school no one has even heard of a “book award”.

Same her tigerton - nobody in my school knows about it. I think Byerly made a good point about multiple valedictorians - the book award can help the college learn who the school views as the best student. Other than that, it’s not much.

I got the Bryn Mawr award at my school. I forget who get every book award. I know the Northwestern one included two books and went to one of the vals (we have 5). I think Harvard’s went to another val. They don’t really mean anything. They go to highly ranked students and favorites of the counselors. The two groups usually overlap considerably.

hey … i was just wondering
highest weighted or unweighted GPA?
