Should we submit a resume to Harvard under the “supplemental materials?” I noticed that Harvard didn’t ask for a resume on the Common App. Also, has anyone who applied RD heard about the interviews?
No. Don’t submit a resume. They’ve already gotten every speck of information about you that they want, between the Common App and their supplemental questions.
I just got mine today
Interesting. So if 38% applied without scores, but only 24% of those accepted were without scores, it sounds as if Penn was positively swayed to some degree by the good scores of the 62% of ED applicants who did submit test scores. They comprised 76% of the accepted students.
Another interesting fact was that over 50% of the accepted students from the US, identify as people of color. Essentially, what that means is that over 50% of the accepted US students were Black or Hispanic. That is a HUGE percentage. They filled half the class already, from the ED cohort.
When colleges report POC numbers they typically include all the various Asian ethnicities, in addition to Black, Hispanic, American Indian, etc.
Oh, that’s hilarious, considering that the admissions committees are certainly NOT treating Asians the same as Black/Hispanic/Native American when it comes to evaluation for admissions.
My son received an interview request last night.
D21 submitted her RD application on Dec 29th and received an interview request yesterday.
I wonder how or if athletic recruits skewed the data. Of the 1,200 accepted ED, 200± are athletic recruits. Athletes for Ivies (and academic D3’s) tend to test early to clear some initial recruiting hurdles. Also, it was relatively late for Ivies to allow recruits to go TO because of underlying NCAA D1 requirements and the Ivy Agreement on AI requirements. As late as July of this year, tests were still required of athletic recruits even though the schools had gone TO. As Penn goes test optional, prospective athletes still must submit scores | The Daily Pennsylvanian. The question is if the recruits disproportionately submitted scores with their apps since many probably turned those in for pre-reads.
Common App has the “Additional Information” section which can be used to list all that you would typically have in a Resume. So an additional resume would become redundant and may not be appreciated by the AOs.
I have a strong feeling that if a player is on the coach’s “I want him” list, then he goes into the “Can we take him?” pile, rather than the “Why should we take him?” pile. If the recruited athlete’s GPA is high enough, that’s probably going to be enough that the answer is “Yup, we can let coach have this one.” And since NCAA wasn’t requiring test scores this year, the schools certainly weren’t. So I doubt that the schools were puzzling over why the recruited athlete didn’t submit a score. I don’t think they cared - if the kid’s GPA was okay, that would have been enough this year.
Asking for a friend: forgot to include the SSN when submitting the application. Anyone know what to do if they are applying for financial aid through FAFSA?
DS submitted application test optional for SAT. The PDF of submitted application is not showing self-reported AP scores though. Do we need to submit official scores. He also has a Math Subject 2 score that is not showing in PDF. Any advice.
Contact your admissions officer and ask what to do. They may refer you to a financial aid staffer.
My son who was just admitted REA forgot to put self-reported AP and subject test scores on the Common App until after he’d submitted it to Harvard. Then, he couldn’t see anyplace to add them to the Harvard supplemental application, so what he did was self report them in the “Is there anything else we should know about you?” section, attached a printed download of the AP and subject test scores in that space, and ordered an official report be sent to Harvard. I have no idea if they saw them or not. He was not applying test-optional, but he didn’t have an SAT to report. He only had an ACT to submit.
They were actually able to do it through the portal (there is a specific place to do so) but thanks!
Thank you. How long it is before you get access to Portal after application submission. Thanks.
I think he did it as part of the supplemental application specifically for Harvard. I don’t remember if it was immediately available, but I think it was.
I just got an email for a Harvard alumni interview request! I am excited but really nervous as I have a bit of social anxiety… Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me? I am having it on Wednesday…
It is also my first interview. Is it a good sign that I am getting an interview? Especially early on?
