Harvard EA strong stats/essay/recs.. weak ec's

not as bad as stanford though, they had 51% rejection rate of perfect SAT's.

You guys are scaring me!!! SAT of 1600 got rejected, and more than 50% of them!!!

Thanks man, now I see how my chances are comparing with those people...

You're fine. You'll get into at least one of the Ivies.

Now get the hell out of here.

CC is valuable because it tells it like it is. Kids think, oh, I've got 1600, I'm in (and so do their parents). You are definitely a competitive applicant and will get into a great, challenging school, but it may not be Harvard. Have you visited Harvard or any of your RD schools? The best advice I can give anyone is to GO AND SEE THE SCHOOL FOR YOURSELF. Do you research beforehand but tour the campus for yourself and trust your gut.

anthony249.. harvard has a 2/3 rejection reate.. 66%.
jzl1129, chill.. it's not just sat's. :-)
aim78.. sounds like someone's being spiteful. did it ever occur that i'm not just trying to get into A ivy league school?
kinshasa, i agree wholeheartedly. thanks for sharing your opinion. =D

cross-posting under harvard

Are you planning on majoring in Science, Art, or Math? Maybe Engineering? I can't really see how Harvard fits in with your resume. Good luck!

yeah, i havent done much specific stuff.. planning to go into biology/pre-med

^________^

Actually, Harvard rejecting a majority of 1600s should tell you something positive. That they care about more than numbers, and a student with a 1600 isn't just gonna waltz in there without something else to go with it. You KNOW there are kids with a 1600 SAT that do nothing but study all the time. These are probably the ones that get rejected. I see it as meaning that test scores alone aren't enough.

But 1600 will give you the best chance overall
For Example:

1600 - 33% admit rate
1580 - 30%
1560 - 25%
1540 - 20%
1520 - 18%
1500 - 15%

yeah, that's how i saw it.
anthony249, where'd you get those numbers? i really like what i see.. 1580-30% =D

those are not real i made them up :P
that was just an example to illustrate my point, lol

OH. i just saw this today anthony... LOL. for all this time i'd taken those numbers to heart.. ahh. does anyone actually have a breakdown of admission rates by sat or gpa or something for harvard?
err.. i'm just a weee bit late, i'm afraid.

i did end up applying early action to harvard. decisions get mailed 5:00pm EST on Tuesday, Dec 11. this waiting is killing me.

Where is everyone getting this whole Tuesday thing for Harvard? I did EA there do, and I'm about to die! Did I just miss the newsflash?

"Early Action e-mails will be sent after 5:00pm (ET) on Tuesday, December 14, 2004."

ahh anxiety attack! -_- meh.
i need something to do till tuesday.

what has everyone been doing to ease the anxiety?

i hate to say that harvard's always uncertain even for the smartest kids, but if i were on the admitting committee, i'd want you in!!

my one question is how you're judging your essay... based on what i've seen, everyone seems to say that their own essays are excellent, to the point where it's pretty much meaningless (no offense if yours really are!).

do you go to seneca valley, btw?

thanks, i hope the harvard adcom thinks the same way as you! =D

no offense taken! =) i completely understand what you're saying. if you'd like, i'll be willing to show you my essay, or some writing samples. my writing is my strength :D

and yes, i do go to seneca valley... in germantown md?
oooh i see you're from potomac.. what hs?
