Hey this thread is for anyone who wants to apply to harvard this fall! Please post your stats and ask any questions u have!!

I'm going to apply EA for 2010... but ... I won't be taking my SAT Reasoning until next week, and my SAT Subject tests until the fall... so it's a bit early to post stats!

hey guys, im planning on applying to harvard EA in november. check out these stats and tell me what you think thanks

SAT MATH: 800
SAT VERBAL:670
SAT WRITING: 740
SAT II'S- HISTORY, BIOLOGY, MATH IIC, taking all in june
estimated around 750, 750, 750

rank: 1 out of 650
public school in new jersey

ec's- job at community library (12 hrs. per week) for around one year
Future business leaders of america: vp, pres. next year
founded chess club
key club- 3yrs.
cross country, winter track 3rd place in counties
national spanish honor society
national honor society

gpa: 3.96
weighted: 4.75

3 ap's this year, 6 next year- hopefully 5's on all 3 this year

you look like you've got a good start. You might be more specific as to what you've done in the clubs you're involved in.

hey i think im gonna apply ea to Harvard as well
I dont really have any stats yet but i will soon

235 on PSAT (only quantifiable thing I've done)
taking 3 APs US hist, Eng Lang, and Chem
taking SAT II Chem and US hist -----I'll take a couple more in the fall
and then i have the SAT I in june

im not really worried about these tests because ive always been nice on standardized tests---but i am worried about having EC's --- it seems like everyone who gets in has crazy EC's like nationally recognized musician and stuff like that. The only notable thing I'll have is being pres. of NHS and then being in like 2 clubs. I've got like 4 varsity letters and play basketball-- and used to do XC and track if that matters.

For athletics, it doesn't matter that much unless you are good enough to get recruited.

If you're any good (as the varsity letters would indicate), you should try to get recruited. Contact the basketball and XC coaches.

As for ECs, nationally ranking ECs are not required by any means. What matters is that you do what you are passionate about, and that you convey yourself honestly through your essays. Nationally ranking ECs won't help you if you come off as a shallow person who does things to impress colleges.

heyy everyone, I need to ask you smth:
I've taken the SATs three times already and my highest score has been only 1400 (700/700). I heard that Harvard doesn't like it when u take it more than 3x because it looks as if you're focusing on scores too much. I'm also an international student, so I don't know what to do. Do I take them again, or just leave it?!

When did you take them? If they are spread out enough (i.e., once each in 9th, 10th and 11th), it shouldn't matter so much.

Don't you have to take the new SAT anyway?

No, I took one in July 04, the 2nd one in October and the 3rd one this Jan. So, theyre not really spread out. Um, I dont think i have to take the new SAT, they accept the old one's scores as well. But, the prob is that if i was to take the SATs again, I'd have to work even harder, practise even more, buy new books, etc... which i really dont have time for bcuz i have exams coming up, and i have to take SAT IIs. I dont now.. I'm really confused

Ah, crimson4me, your on this thread as well. I read in "What It Really Takes To Get Into The Ivy League & Other Highly Selective Colleges," by Chuck Hughes a former senior admissions office at Harvard that Harvard and other top colleges do take into account the number of times you take the SAT. He says in his book "Never take the SAT I more than three times. Scores are unlikely to improve significantly after two attempts, and since admissions offices receive all test scores, they could view students with more than three SAT scores negatively, wondering perhaps whether applicants are too test-focused," confirming the doubt in your post.

Since your tests have not been spaced out over your high school life, I would advise you not to take the SAT I anymore and focus on the SAT II now.

Well, I took the SATs my sophomore year... then in December of this school year, and will take the new SAT in May next week... and I'm definitely not going to take it again.

Does anyone planning on applying have any stand out features? (legacy, sports recruiting...etc?)
I, myself, will be a URM applicant.
