Harvard Legacy Question

Just curious,

I know there are countless posts regarding the "general" concept, but I couldn't find an answer to this. My parents are not directly associated with Harvard College, but my aunt is a Harvard College graduate. Also, my grandfather aided a Harvard professor in his research at the Widener Library. Any benefit for me?

Please don't hate on me for posting this.

Nope. The only alma mater information they care about is your direct parents and any siblings. Sorry.

Really? It’s right there in Harvard College Admissions’ FAQ:

[Harvard College Admissions § Applying: Frequently Asked Questions](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/faq.html#25)

As exultationsy said, neither of those connections will help you with admission to Harvard College.

Interestingly enough, alum connection is not something Harvard supplement questions unlike other schools. So the only way they can track that is by using the parent credentials on common app.

I assume that most legacy applicants find a way to “slip that” into an essay.

It makes very little difference. It is a tie-breaker that’s all. As “hooks”–for Harvard it isn’t a very strong one…

Like etondad said, it may or may not be considered legacy, but it probably won’t help as a hook.
