Harvard MPH

Hi everyone,

So I am currently a rising junior at the University of Maryland College Park and am majoring in public health science with a minor in global poverty. My GPA is not good because I had a tough freshmen year but has gone up sophomore year. It is a just under a 3.0. I have prior experience/internships at the National Cancer Institute (summer) and currently am interning within the School of Public Health at the University of Maryland. From the NCI, I presented a poster at the Summer Poster Day Festival outlining my accomplishments and findings. Furthermore, I am part of UMD RISE, an advocacy group aimed at raising India socially and economically of which I am a research coordinator. In the past I volunteered at the National Institute of Standards and Technology but that drifts away from my field of study and was prior to my major declaration. In the future. If I were able to raise my GPA to a 3.2ish and given my current credentials and experiences, what would my chances be given that I continue to make the best of my opportunities and experiences (my boss at my current internship is working with me to get a paper published in a journal). Thanks everyone! I’m new to this so please feel free to be brutally honest or whether you need more information from me. And what schools do you think would be safe bets for me? I’m also considering George Washington, UNC, Michigan, Maryland, and Drexel

Just to clarify I am looking into MPH programs and have not yet decided on a specification but am leaning towards Health Administration and Policy

Why do you want to attend Harvard specifically? With less than a 3.0 GPA, you have nearly a 0% chance of being admitted, especially as a transfer student.

I had a brutal freshmen year, mostly due to health problems but have recovered well. Last semester I earned a 3.4 gpa and am slowly raising my GPA. I’m currently studying for the GRE as well.

Also, do you think I have a chance at any of the other aforementioned schools? I want to attend Harvard because the prestige, in addition to my “credentials” would make me a good candidate for employers.

Also, in any interviews, I can tell them about my condition freshmen year. Also, I have solid letters of recs
