Harvard or MIT for Physics?

I got accepted by both Harvard and MIT, but I am really confused of where I should be going. I want to do Physics. And my dream is to join the academia and be a professor in Physics. Which school do you think would be better for my future career plan?

Unfortunately you can’t go wrong at either. I would visit each and see where you feel comfortable. The campus cultures are very different from what i’ve heard.

I would say MIT. They have lots of options for hands-on research and a really great program. I’m sure Harvard does though as well.

Definitely visit if you can. The campuses are entirely different and the cultures are very different as well. See which school fits you better based on you as a student and where you think you’ll be happiest. You really cannot go wrong no matter which school you choose to go to.

Maybe a physics student will come and post here, but I know when I was thinking about majoring in physics in the summer before Freshman year at least three professors offered me places in their labs over e-mail. They seemed very friendly!

Both schools have very strong physics programs. In addition to different campus cultures, the schools have different requirements: MIT requires bio and chem in addition to the physics and math a physics major would take anyway, while Harvard has Expos and (I think) more humanities and social science requirements.
