If you knew you wanted to go into investment banking, which of these two schools carries more prestige? Which would you choose?

Wharton...definitely

For The Last Time, They Are Both Equal In Prestige In Finance

Edit: CC won't let me capitalize every letter, which I wanted to do to emphasize my point that this ridiculous question is asked all the time.

Why does it matter to you anyway? Do you actually think you'll get into both...or even one for that matter and have to choose? The chances are slim...so why dwell on it ?

apply to both and worry about it after you get in to both (unlikely)

Wharton > Harvard for finance

Harvard's alumni network is just as good, if not better than Wharton's. Both are recruited by the most exclusive ibanks/PE/hedge funds, both have a great name. It REALLY makes NO difference; but if you want to study finance itself, go to Wharton.

Edit: I just saw that you were wondering about transferring from Wharton to Harvard. In that case, I would choose Harvard. You probably don't like Wharton (hence your reason for transferring), and Harvard's grade inflation vs. Wharton's tough curve doesn't hurt either.

JPPS, you're right about the transfer...I just want to gauge how potential employers would view Harvard econ majors as opposed to Whartonites, and see if transferring would lessen my chance of landing a job at a large firm.

It will absolutely not...Harvard and Wharton are the only two schools recruited by every ibank and even some hedge funds, and they are each recruited in greater numbers than any other school. In terms of job opportunities, it will make no difference. I'd take the Harvard diploma though, since you can major in a wider variety of subjects and still get hired. Not only that, but should ibanking ever burn you out, you'll have a degree that can lead you outside of business.

harvard also has some financial courses in its economics and applied math majors, and you can do a joint honors double major program in them.

In all honesty if your able to get into either, I don't think it would matter 'too much'. After all both are very good schools, and getting into I-banking from either of them is obtainable, granted you have the GPA in such.
