hopefully it wont be too hard, because the class sounds like a lot of fun.

So i have finally finished up gathering everything for my application, and everythng will be in my next friday, will applying this late hinder my chances?

*by next friday

You should be fine. I turned in my app Monday and thought it was too late. Surprisingly, I got accepted today. My stats arn't even that good. See you guys there!

lol hopefully its not too late. prolly take me at least another 2 weeks to get everything in..as i am not certain I want to go yet.

It does say you can apply up to like June tho. Only thing is that biochemistry class which i want to take too is limited enrollment. (21 of 76 spaces taken so far)

has anybody applied to this online? how does that work? don't you have to get teachers to write stuff?

you fill out your info online, but the teacher recommendations should be faxed or mailed to the program.

I got confuessed by that too. i just sent everything in via mail.

fruitcake- how do u know the amount of people signed up for each course already?

Also, general question. i'm concerned i am going to have spend the entire time studying for courses and what not. does anyone one know how much time is actually spent working and how much time having fun?

sent them an email. go to the site and enter the 5 digit code you see in the course description

5) When are limited enrollment courses usually full by? I am particular interested in BIOL S-100c Principles of Biochemistry (31815)

This varies a great deal. You can check course enrollments online. Follow this link, and fill in the course information:

im STILL not sure what courses to take...
hey has anyone taken biochemistry? is it good?

nvm i think im taking introduction to biology :)

I have been sending everything via mail. is there any way that i can check the status of my application online?

just login and click the student status link

i don't have a login id

o really? then i dont know. sorry. i was emailed an id because i did it online not through email.

well i send my application via email, and I still recieved a handy letter thing that has my ID and password and things.
im not sure which one is which - but did you try typing in your social security number for the ID? (that's my ID)
and the password ... try calling them ~ sometimes they are nice and helpful

ok i will, thanks a bunch

im still waiting for other programs' letters so i can see if 8-week session works ...

auxsoleil - my daughter took biochem last summer. You do need a good grasp of orgo, or have the ability to teach yourself orgo. HSSP undergrad tutors will not be able to assist you. The TA's for the class are harried grad students who won't be willing to answer questions about basic organic chem.

If you decide to take biochem, be sure to have a parent call to tell the housing people that they should place you in a dorm where you will not have to traverse deserted sections of campus at 9:30-10pm when class gets out. Also be prepared to tell them that no, you really don't want to hang about for 10-15 minutes, in the dark, by yourself, outside the class building waiting for a bus twice a week to take you to your dorm in the boonies.

Realize that while YOU may be taking a challenging course, HSSP is for the most part, a summer camp. Your roommates won't be working terribly hard and it may become distracting.
