i only heard great things about the writing courses!! everyone i knew who took a writing course loved it! they(harvard ssp) really do a good job about being able to have resources to help with the papers...i know that they had a really good writing help thingy (sorry i never used them since i never wrote a paper there...but ppl i knew who used it said it was very helpful so definitely check it out)

btw if you are going to have to write papers i would really reccomend bringing a laptop i had some friends who had to use the computer labs (i did too) but lets just say when it gets really hot outside and in the dorms the computer lab becomes the hangout spot which is okay if your just surfing the web but VERY distracting when you are trying to accomplish work!! lets just say it could get annoying quickly. (the main computer lab in the science center was pretty good b/c it stayed quiet but the computer labs at the dorms is where it got really annoying)

its pricey but its totally worth it!! and dont forget to apply for finacial aid!! thats why i chose Harvard for ssp b/c they were the most giving in FA! i would also plan on brining enough cash!! b/c lets just say i dropped like 125$ the first day signing up for the activities! yes you dont have to do any activities but i visited 3 colleges for a total of 60$

umm honestly it depends on how much you feel like spending! seriously you wont feel out of place at all if you dont really want to spend to much money the whole semester (i was worried that everyone would like have like an unlimited budget which is far from my case but it wasnt like that at all if others did so you would never know) anyway keep in mind(as of last year) the college trips are 20$ each(Except for the mit one in which it was just the T fare) and the other trips/activities were as much as 35 dollars (usually it ranged from 15-35$)
money for shopping---umm if you like shopping you might plan on bringing some money for that...you could go with friends to the malls(one is that famous street in boston and the other you can go to is the one at the T stop...if i remember correctly on the orange line?)
money for food---such as ice cream shops, restaurants (you MUST go to the north end and eat out! i reccomend Giacomo's seriously i went there once and i cant wait to go back! and they were super nice to me and my friends!) starbucks(i didnt really spend any money there but alot of my friends like drank there everyday!!)
money for other things---you will shop at cvs alot since thats like the only store in walking distance(you will definately go there to but water bottles)! dont forget its like 2$ to do laudry! oh and you will most likely check out some movies with some friends as well!(the movie theatre at city park is awesome although its also cool to check out the movie theatre in harvard yard)

what does the ssp office reccomend for pocket money(i cant remebmer was it like 150$??) honestly i would say 200-600(depending on how much you like to spend and the only reason i say so much b/c as i mentioned in a before post even though i didnt really want to spend to much yet i realized that 20$ to visit a college wasnt that much considering it would cost me more to visit them by myself therefore activities/trips alon was like 150$ and i only visited 3 colleges and went on 3 trips!!) keep in mind though that if you want to spend more thats fine as well(one of my friends spent 200$ buying like 3 articles of clothing one day when we were shopping!) but you could definitely get by with spending less(if have any further questions regarding this just pm me and i will tell you how much i spent)

also i actually got a checking account with bank of america since i dont like to carry money around and didnt want to use traveler checks(i had some friends who used ttraveller checks and had no problem with them though) and it was great bank of america was very conveniant placed b/c it hd lots of atm's around harvard yard and elsewhere around boston! so if i needed to go to the atm i had no problem!
as far as answering your question about what other things to bring (such as lamps and such!) do you plan on flying in or driving in b/c that really makes a big difference!! thus i could answer the question better!

i`m taking all that to heart, if you have a facebook, you should join the Harvard SSP 07 group, i think a lot of them have questions similar to mine...

yeah i agree with akiiriah. I'd say 50%+, though. I went there last summer and had the same discussion with my roommates and we came to the conclusion that no one (we knew) was rejected. However, you'd be surprised how nerdy the group is. Most of them were in the top 5% of their school, took AP classes in their sophomore year (I was a rising junior) and had very unique personalities. Overall, the experience was priceless. I think you will definitely enjoy your summer.

how much interaction will there be between high school students? i don't think i'm ready to be the one of like, one or two high school student in a college class. =/

I'm going this year for Biology! I'm really excited that I got accepted, even if it's not that selective, as I've heard. Will anyone else here take Introductory Bio?

Also, I want to get to know people before I get there, so I won't be completely lost. You can look me up on face book: Ria (WSHS class of '09).
