I will probably be getting a letter of recommendation from a entrepreneur who has connections with Stanford, Harvard, MIT, and Caltech.

I want to major in economics.

I would say give up on MIT and Caltech due to your weakness in math. Unless you do some self accelerating and do some calculus. Also pursue some interesting hobby in science or math if you want to look good for engineering schools esp Caltech

Thanks for the input. I know I got a B+ in Math freshman year but believe it or not math is my strength. According to my PSAT and PLAN I am best at math (scored 98percentile + for both). Its Reading and Vocab that brings my scores down :(

If you have a passion for math, I would include Caltech and MIT. If you keep up what you are doing now, you are on the right track to admissions success.

Bump Bump Bump Anymore advice and chances?

If you get 2200+ SAT you will most likely get into the college of your choice. Work on that and a mere perfect GPA. Best of Luck!

Your colleges are kind of all over the place…why apply to both Georgetown and MIT, two colleges with two different focuses. Anyway, freshman year doesn’t count for much. If you keep up an upward trend and do well on your SAT’s then I’m confident that you’ll do fine. Just concentrate on creating a profile for yourself…be unique and try you best to separate yourself from thousands of other applicants.

It’s not just the B+ in geometry that will work against you at CalTech and MIT, it’s the complete lack of AP lab science classes: AP Physics, AP Bio, and AP Chemistry. You need a couple of them under your belt to be a serious candidate – and to survive your freshman year if you do get in.

A 28/32 plan isn’t very good either for these schools. You should be targeting at least a 34 composite on the actual ACT to be competitive. Your sophomore PSAT of 219 looks more promising – you may find that you do better on the SAT than the ACT – take both and send your best score.

I agree with @Black’s Law. These are all fantastic schools for which you are qualified, but you shouldn’t just apply to a school because it’s a good school. Unless you love math, are good at it, and want to become an engineer or some kind of rocket scientist, I wouldn’t recommend trying to get into MIT or Caltech

You need AP sciences to get into MIT and Caltech. Your freshman year grades aren’t awful as long as you display an upward trend in your grades/ECs. Otherwise, your test scores look promising. And I must agree with the others that your colleges are really all over the place. UVA AND MIT? Just sort of random.
