Harvard still ranks #1 in the World

i don't understand how Berkeley is better than MIT, Cal Tech, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford.

"i don't understand how Berkeley is better than MIT, Cal Tech, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford."

berkeley's graduate programs are just as good if not better than the above, and by graduate programs, i mean both in the sciences and in the social sciences/humanities.

It's the same reason that UCSF, which doesnt have an undergrad program AT ALL, is so highly ranked. Those rankings don't take undergrad programs into consideration.

If you want to measure undergraduate quality, you should use the Revealed Prefernce Ranking or US News.

gimme a break foo.. wheres my dawg iit or seoul univerisy or tokyo university.

no matter what approach you use, Harvard is still going to be #1

well if you use the correct approach than stanford would be number 1

where's your spelling

omg i always make that awful mistake. i understand syntax, diction, and the other wonders of the english language but yet i always seem to mix up than and then.

correct statement:well if you use the correct approach THEN stanford would be number 1

These are graduate rankings based on graduate based information!!! Dartmouth at 138?? WOW, how did an undergrad school get so high...see my point? This isnt relevant to undergrad education. We all know Berkeley is a great grad school but that doesnt mean its up there with the top undergrad schools.

Surly Rice should be on the top 20 universities in North America...

Rice's graduate program is not that strong

Yay For Berkley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Berkeley is a safety school, no doubt. The revealed preference ranking shows how nobody chooses to go to Berkeley if they can help it.

"...nobody chooses to go to Berkeley if they can help it." what do you mean? i don't get it?

zzzsleepz: Sarcasm

Stanford categorically beats berkeley, so if berkely is higher something is wrong

I am not so sure about that. Cal and Stanford are equals at the graduate level. At the undergraduate leve, I agree that Stanford is better...but not by much.

usually, big university has lots of resource = better graduate program

i think dartmouth is an excellent school, but this claim it is only an undergrad like an LAC is just ridiculous. It has a med school, a business school (which is pretty good), but the med school is attrocious and its grad programs in the arts and sciences and engineering are pretty atrocious. Stop making excuses for its programs that just aren't good. I think anyone would rather have a PhD from Cal Berk than Dartmouth. It might be an excellent school for undergrad, but its grad honestly is pretty lacking compared to other research universities. Anyawys, it just goes to show you what one considers prestige is really different by other means. It's all relative. If you are planning living oversees, it may make sense to go to a school that has an international rep rather than a Dartmouth, which no one knows out there. Nonetheless, Dart is an extraordinary school.

collegekid1988, i agree with you
