Harvard Summer School / Stanford Summer School / PG Year

I will most likely take a PG year at the Kent Prep school next year in CT, but may opt for a year at a nearby college. I feel as though a PG year with heavy academics, including Kent's pre-engineering program, would be ideal. My GPA is the reason I was rejected from Harvard and AFA last year (I know it was a regrettable thing to apply to two schools) - everything else on my application is good or even great.

I'm wondering about your thoughts of taking Harvard Summer School versus Stanford Summer School. Harvard SSP may seem as though I'm desperate for Harvard, a school that I have already applied to once before. Stanford might be a better option. On the other hand, I have an opportunity to get prof recommendations at Harvard.

Obviously I will apply to other schools next year, including MIT. It's likely I would like MIT better than Harvard, even though H's engineering program is more humanities oriented, an environment I would like to work in.

So, what are you even asking? And why are you asking it in the MIT forum?

Shouldn’t you perhaps direct these questions to the Harvard or Stanford forums?

For what it’s worth, I think you should do the Harvard program if that’s where your heart’s at. If you really want Harvard, then you should do whatever you can to maximize your chances. If you ask for my straightforward opinion, I would say that applying - being rejected - then doing the summer program at Harvard and then something else is a pretty strong sign of commitment, dedication and willpower. Now, whether the Harvard admissions office will agree with me is a whole different story.

And also - if Harvard is not a must for you, then perhaps you should start looking at schools that interest you and that you haven’t been rejected from hitherto. Invest yourself in this year and make the most of your time!

Good luck anyway!

if you’re desperate for harvard why are you applying to MIT

this is a poor decision
