Harvard vs Stanford? Cons and Pros

jsungoh, how come your English writing skills are so bad when you have lived in California for your “whole life” and was accepted to both Harvard and Stanford? Smells kind of trollish to me.

This coming from a person who takes every chance he has to put Stanford down.

By that logic, Dad2, people should never choose another college over Harvard (no school has the prestige of Harvard). And by extension Swarthmore and Williams should almost always be turned down if you have an offer from a more prestigious college in hand (most colleges). Oh wait, they are. ;)

edit: what tuba269 said.

@Urberville: If you are going to deem me as a ■■■■■ for my writing, then you are gravely mistaken. I do not waste my time concentrating on my grammar / spelling on a forum, if it gives the necessary message / it is understandable to others what I’m saying. If you are going to claim me as a ■■■■■, go ahead and look through my posts. My information does not vary, and I’m an honest person who hates trolls. Yes, I got into Harvard and Stanford, and if you are going to place me as an example of what “Harvard and Stanford quality students are,” then you are a completely ignorant. And next time you go around being so blatantly rude, do some personal research yourself before assuming anything.

I don’t mean to be rude, but I cannot help but wonder how a person who can barely construct a correct sentence in English got into both of the schools. Even your latest response is full of mistakes.

I don’t get it. Was this a joke of some kind?

@Urberville: Barely construct a sentence? I can cohesively write a simple sentence, but I feel that it is unnecessary. If you are so anal about every single sentence and judgmental about grammar and illiteracy, you should not even be on the internet in the first place. You don’t have any right to judge me about my grammar nor anything else if you don’t know my life. Alright? Take your rudeness elsewhere, since I was only trying to be helpful.

And Urberville, you got into Harvard and UChicago with an SAT score of 2030. Truly amazing, and I commend you for your accomplishments.

@ Urberville… Didn’t you write this a while back?“Guys, I was just accepted! I hope you good luck! You will need it! You’ve got a 95% chance of being rejected.”

Does “I hope you good luck” make grammatical sense to you?

Stop claiming people are trolls for their grammar usage (they aren’t writing their college admissions essays on this site). If someone’s grammar bothers you so much, fix it in your mind and don’t make a damn post calling a person you don’t know a ■■■■■ for no reason…

Stanford all the way!! While Harvard and Stanford are about equal in science, social science, medicine, law and business, Stanford will trounce Harvard in appliced science and engineering- no contest.

I was accepted to both. While Harvard was enticing in its “Yardfest,” I felt that it was a inaccurate portrayal of what the school was really like. In the end, the prestige was nagging me, but then I asked myself, “In forty or some odd years, would the prestige of either school really determine who I am as a person and push my career forward?” The answer was no. It is up to me to decide my fate.

I chose Stanford in the end. Although, as a California Bay Area resident, Harvard was seriously enticing me with its “unique experience.” I highly respect your decision, jsungoh!

I was fortunate enough to go to both. They’re the dominant schools on their respective coasts. For my area of study, Stanford is to Silicon Valley careers what Harvard is to Wall Street. Stanford is a little larger population wise, but has a significantly larger continental campus than Harvard, so it feels like a big university (bigger than it really is). Stanford is about 2,500 acres (about 6,000 unused, total 8,000). Harvard is 210 acres. I don’t know what the exact numbers are, but I believe Harvard looses more students to Stanford than any other school.

In my opinion, both were equally great macro-ly, while Stanford was less pretentious. Many say Stanford is more beautiful, but I think that’s up to your personal tastes, because although I agree, I would rather be at Harvard. Both have the same dorm desks :D… obviously HLS is tiers above Stanford Law, but both have fantastic facilities for all of their departments. Another thing about Stanford is they’re developing much of their land; currently they’re completing a new building about every school year, with at least a couple under construction. This year the Knight center was completed last June, with the new Law building completed before that. There are three buildings that I know of (one of them part of some sort of stadium) currently under construction.

I think the one point everyone can agree on is Stanford’s weather is LIGHTYEARS ahead of Harvard’s. My last semester, there was ONE rainy day! Most sunny days have no clouds, and the temperature sits in the 60-80° range all year long.

Bottom line: if you’re accepted to both, I STRONGLY, STRONGLY suggest you visit both! Make no excuses about it! Do NOT commit to one without visiting the other! I don’t care what the plane ticket is, this is the direction of your life. Just like how college admits are admitted based on their personal levels more than anything else, so should be choosing a college. Also, Harvard has on campus interviews, Stanford does not (that I know of).

EDIT: If you’re an athlete, Stanford generally has better sports, especially basketball and football. Their basketball team won the orange something this year. Harvard has better rowing, etc. But, a Big 10 school might be in call instead of Stanford if this is your road.

Recarding International Prestige , I ll tell you that it is Harvard>MIT>Berkeley>Stanford,Princeton . I dont mean to imply anything regarding how good these schools are. I just compare their “wow” factor in my country.

^lol at berkeley

@Urberville You might be one of the rudest people on College Confidential I’ve ever seen. Your claims are absurd, and I’m glad the rest of the forum has teamed up against you. Because you deserve to be slashed down like the ignorant human being you come off as.

@yankster, while I agree with you, this post is nearly two years old and doesn’t need to be resurrected.
