Harvard Vs. Wharton

Which is better for an undergraduate education. I would like to go into business afterward. Also, if i go to harvard for undergrad, where to go for grad. Which is better. Oppinions please.

Well, I'm hopefully going to wharton so I hope its better than wharton for business. Generally, harvard is above penn on the school ranking lists for overall but for a business school wharton almost always tops the list.

Wharton is the number one undergrad business school in the world, but I think Harvard holds the best MBA program.

Financial/investment firms will hire undergrads from both Harvard and Wharton. Chances of a job are probably equal everywhere except the most quantitatively-oriented trading jobs. On the job, Wharton will give you a leg-up in the training program but it's all equal from there. In school, the main difference is do you want the financial markets / concentrated business atmosphere of Wharton or the more generalized nature of Harvard.

It really depends on what you'd like your instruction to be like. Do you want a more focused concentration on the business world or would you rather dabble in economics or some other subject then go to work.

Wharton is the #1 undergrad business school, and its graduate program has an average rating of #1 as well (across US News, BusinessWeek, Financial Times). Harvard, of course, is Harvard and thus is going to be respected by recruiters. It's MBA program is also one of the super-elites with Penn and Stanford. One thing that is interesting to note though is that only about 30% of Wharton undergrad students ever go back to get a MBA. That may solve your grad school issue right there, although it is not a guarantee.

Aside from academics and recruiting, where the schools will largely be the same, look at atmosphere as well. Do you feel yourself enjoying Penn or Harvard more? Go on visits, meet the students, see what both have to offer. Choose that way.

why do people generally go to grad school. I think if i go to wharton, as chi town said, i wouldnt need a grad degree, so why go back to get an MBA, is it for prestige or connections or what???

Thanks

CCoe-- that's the point. People who graduate from Wharton don't really need to get a grad degree, and they know that.

I know two people who go to Wharton -- both were accepted to Harvard and both chose to go to Wharton. It's number one for a reason. If someone tells me they go to Wharton, it has the same effect as a non-business undergrad telling me they're going to Harvard.

Business = Wharton. Good luck!

MBA for someone with an undergrad Wharton is often a conduit for changing industries - and lifetime flexibility beyond that.

Prestige, connections, 2-yr vacation are also reasons.

And there is that little matter of getting accepted by each school that may just resolve this issue for you. At least you don't have to worry about where to apply ED.

Save Harvard for grad! You'll have the best of both worlds ;-)
