I’m a freshman in high school right now and its my dream to get into Harvard, the counselors at my school are absolutely terrible so I need to somehow know if I’m on the right path or not…
Classes:
AP Human Geography: A+
Integrated Math 2: A+
English Accelerated: A+
Spanish 5-6: A+
Biology Accelerated: A
PE Course 1: B
**I’m trying really hard to get PE up to at least an A- by mid-December
Extracurriculars:
-Kathak (a type of Indian Classical Dance) for 2-3 years
-JV Academic League
-Class secretary for 2021
**I’m also going to join Mock Trial later on if it fits with my schedule, and train so that I can get onto JV lacrosse in spring
I know this sounds pretty ridiculous coming from a freshman, but I’m super paranoid (especially because of that stupid B in PE) and it would be great if you all could give me advice/add your thoughts on whether or not I could
Yes, it is ridiculous. You’re a freshman who has been in school for a few weeks, so your grades are premature as it is, as is stressing over a B. Harvard will not care that you get a B in PE.
Please stop thinking about college admission this early. It will distort your whole high school experience. In fact, try going a semester without even looking at your grades and focus on learning developing interests, making friends.
Generally, young people who say that Harvard is their “dream” don’t know a lot about other schools- or about Harvard. It is just well-known and prestigious. If you insist on focusing on college this early, please take some time to learn about other schools, the ones that fit YOU, and don’t spend the next 4 years trying to fit yourself to a school.
After many years on this forum, I am starting to think that anyone for whom Harvard is a “dream” might benefit from counseling so that their high school years are not ruined by stressing over things like a B in PE.
