To all the students that are planning to apply to Harvard and all the students that are attending Harvard, what makes it so special? What, your mind, sets it apart from the Yale and the Princeton? I do not plan to apply to harvard, personally because I highly doubt I would be accepted, but I would still like to know the atmosphere, feeling, etc of Harvard, not just the name.

It’s really red.

Harvard has a dining hall that looks like Hogwarts

I could set apart Yale, but not Princeton. To me, Harvard has got a great Math dept.

It’s really red?lol

It’s the best, and the oldest

^why is it the best?what sets it apart?

Because Harvard is on the top. Simple.

If Harvard’s a 3rd tier… Hmm… Guess it’s acceptance rate’ll have to go up to 70%.

But there are also other schools that are on the top also.

^ False

I have no idea if I’m going to be accepted, but I applied because of 3 words:

N. Greggory. Mankiw.

???^

The discussion so far has not been very productive (although I have found it humorous).

I am particularly interested in Harvard because of its Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology concentration. Very few institutions have this course of study at the undergraduate level. Also, the financial aid allows students from more humble backgrounds to attend unimpeded by personal economic concerns.

^Thank you. Then all the crap I hear about Harvard not being nice when it comes to financial aid is total bull.

No offense, but you post some incredibly obvious/silly things. First of all, I don’t understand how one random posters opinion makes everything you hear about Harvard not being nice “total bull.” Although he is correct, you shouldn’t disregard all your opinions based on one post.

Furthermore, you’re asking a highly subjective question. I like Harvard because I like how UG’s get greater focus in their CS department and how the smaller size suits my goals of a liberal arts education. mifune likes Harvard because of one of their concentrations. The next poster could like it for a different reason.

I suggest you visit google.com and do research for yourself. Alternatively, you could search previous topics on CC since your question has been asked many, many times. Don’t be lazy.

I have heard that Harvard is one of the few institutions that is actually upright regarding how much financial aid it will provide.

My younger daughter got in at both Harvard and Yale two years ago. She chose Harvard because it was going to be > $20,000 a year cheaper.

^That is exactly the type of scenario that I have heard contrasting Harvard and Yale’s financial aid packages for those from middle-class backgrounds.

Get off my ass man seriously. I have seen even more random and silly posts, so just get off of my case. I asked a simple question, so that I may get some opinions. I have done much research, so I don’t appreciate you calling me lazy. God, people on these forums aare so damn judgemental.

When people say the top, they mean rankings. Harvard is ranked number one in every single category (as a whole). Of couse, this is not true for say, engineering.
