Harvard

How many people get an application from Harvard sent to them in the mail? I just got one yesterday and I didn't request information from them at all. Could it be from the ACT and SAT tests that I took? Do people who get an application from Harvard actually have a chance to be admitted or is Harvard telling random kids to apply?

Congratulations! I’ve only heard of one other college ever doing that. I don’t know much about this process, but I know it’s something you should look further into.

GAPeach is mistaken. Your info was generated on lists sold to colleges. You’ll be getting hundreds of unsolicited mailings in the next few months.

Do you have a chance? Who knows.

it means nothing really. many people got them, qualified or not

It means you are within a certain (admittedly high) range of test scores. It does not however mean that you would necessarily have a chance at getting in. They do it to increase their number of applicants and therefore lower their admission percentages.

Yep, I got one too. I think their cutoff on SAT Scores is around 2000 (I had a friend get one with around that score last year). I think they do it to frustrate us :)

Harvard (and pretty much every other elite university) is a ■■■■■. Don’t feed it.

They want more people to apply so that their ranking is higher. Rankings are partially based on acceptance rate

Yeah a lot of people receive them
