Harvard is The Crimson.

In an obvious attempt to copy Harvard, Stanford is The Cardinal. That's not the bird cardinal; it's the color cardinal. Like crimson, cardinal is a shade of red.

hrm, their baseball team has a cardinal on it (the bird) i think.

No it doesn't. It has an "S".

maybe i saw the bird in an ad?

harvard's name was nearly "the magenta." in fact, as detailed below, the student newspaper had been called just that.

Nope. From the Stanford athletics website:

"From 1972 until November 17, 1981, Stanfords official nickname was Cardinals, in reference to one of the school colors, not the bird.

Nine years after the Indian was dropped, Stanford had still not decided on a new mascot. President Donald Kennedy declared in 1981 that all Stanford athletic teams will be represented and symbolized exclusively by the color cardinal. 'While various other mascots have been suggested and then allowed to wither, the color has continued to serve us well, as it has for 90 years. It is a rich and vivid metaphor for the very pulse of life.'"

ummm....hello! it's not ultra liberal. it's ultra conservative. if you mean being ultra PC is being liberal, okay then, you don't know the definition of the word. great thing harvard education does.

Being ultra liberal and being ultra PC are generally traits found in tandem.

Byerly, if you wanted to refute his argument, you might have conjured some evidence. no offense, but I enjoy a good debate.
