harvey mudd has an enrollment of about 700 undergrads. It is known for its' science and engineering programs. it is part of the consortium of five colleges known as the claremont colleges consortium. it is a highly regarded school that is difficult to gain admission to.

Tiny private (750ish undergrads, but feels much bigger due to membership in consortium made up of 5,000 undergrads. Check out www.claremont.edu for more info).

Liberal arts college, emphasis on math/science/engineering.

Perceived as excellent within its fields of emphasis.

I believe it's top 20, but probably top 5 in math/science fields (generally considered comparable with MIT/CalTech).

Highly selective, but in kind of a unique way. A huge factor is demonstrated interest in tech fields.

Its probably in the top 20 for liberal arts colleges, near the top for science and math. Its not hard to get in as it is more score driven. A 1400 plus SAT and an actual interest in science will get you in if you apply early. Makes you take humanities classes. Just because its science focused doesnt mean thats all you can do - you can take classes from other surrounding Claremont classes.

yeah when i applied last year, i loved everything about it, but hmmm, that it was in California :(, so, but it's an incredible school, and what's even better is that since it's part of the Claremont College group you will be surrounded by all sorts of personalities, not just the typical "nerds" you will be with most of the time. If i'm not mistaken the group is made up of: HMC, Claremont McKenna [econ, accounting, and poli sci], Pomona [possibly hardest to get into, 21% accepted], Pitzer [fine arts, psych, etc.], and Scripps College [all-women]

The group is generally known for being the premier LAC's of the west w/ some of them often holding their own against the LAC triumvirate of SAW [Swarthmore,Amherst, andWilliams] because the group is known for having some of the most active in intersesting professors.
